Cayuga Ducks
We purchased Cayuga hatching eggs from Keep on Truckin' HomeNStead in New York over the summer of 2023. We were able to hatch a gorgeous pair from those eggs. Until now, they've just been pets but we have really grown to appreciate our ducks and how hardy they are. With that said, we are putting more emphasis on the Cayugas and will be hatching from our pair. Like our Jersey Giants, we are breeding toward the Standard of Perfection.
Cayugas are considered a "Watch" breed by the Livestock Conservancy. This means that without dedicated breeders, their numbers are low enough that they could eventually become endangered. We keep our Cayugas primarily as pets and exhibition birds. They are decent but seasonal egg layers but are reported to be a fine table bird. Early in the spring, Cayuga eggs are a greenish black that lightens over time. |
