Standard-Bred Jersey Giant Chickens
The Craig Farm raises beautiful Jersey Giants in north Georgia. Our goal is to breed Jersey Giants according to the APA Standard of Perfection. We want to maintain a flock that is competitive in the show ring while also laying a generous number of eggs and providing a delicious, pasture-raised table fowl.
Brandon and I began building our Jersey Giant flock in 2022. Our flock is our main focus and originates from Hall/Vaughn lines. We incorporated an exceptional black hen into the white flock from April Rob in 2024. This hen has added much needed size and width to our white flock. 2024 was a big year for us! We hatched out our second generation of Jersey Giants. Although our focus is on white Giants, we did hatch a few black split to white chicks this year to help improve the size and type on our females. We also attended our first poultry shows where a homebred cockerel, Ivan, took Reserve in the American class. In the fall, we attended a second show and won Reserve American with Ivan's daughter, a pullet named Double Oh Seven. We are currently gathering eggs from our 2025 breeding pen. The cockbird is a nice yearling black split to white. He has great size and width of body, although I wish he had more length to his back. One hen is a yearling black split to white who has taken one Reserve American win in a local show. Overall, she is a very nice hen but I'd like to see more bulk overall. The second hen is a HUGE white hen I hatched in late 2023. She has great length and width with a lot of heft. My hope is to hatch at least 15-20 chicks from this trio. The Jersey Giant is an impressively large chicken with an exceptionally calm demeanor. They were originally developed as a multipurpose homestead bird: laying regularly while growing large enough for the family dinner table. Giants lay 3-5 brown eggs per week and are occasionally broody. Jersey Giants are slow growing, taking 8-10 months to mature. They are usually best suited for slow cooking techniques.
Upcoming Poultry Shows
At this time, poultry shows have been suspended in the state of Georgia. Should they reopen, we will closely monitor the bird flu situation before making a decision to attend a show or not.

Availability
Due to limited space, I hatch only the number of Jersey Giant chicks that I plan to raise for my needs. I monitor the development of these young birds and choose the ones that I will continue growing out. As I begin making these selections, I occasionally offer for sale extra juveniles or retired breeding stock. Any availability is usually late autumn. Please note: I do not hatch chicks specifically to sell nor do I sell hatching eggs.
